How to disable X window on image and run Linux such as Ubuntu server - with console only?
Maybe it will be good to prepare the assembly image of Ubuntu Server.
It is possible. One workaround for a working framebuffer console is compiling it as kernel module and loading the modules at startup.
On Ubuntu you can change init mode by editing /etc/default/grub
